Story of the Day

The Capitals conclude their regular-season series with the New York Rangers tonight at Madison Square Garden. Washington is 2-0-0 against New York this season, having won both previous meetings at Capital One Arena by a combined score of 12-7. The Capitals defeated the Rangers 7-4 on Jan. 4 behind a three-point effort from Dylan Strome (1g, 2a). On Oct. 29 in D.C., the Capitals outshot the Rangers 46-19 in a 5-3 win. Ovechkin scored two first-period goals in the victory, while Aliaksei Protas recorded a career-high three points (1g, 2a). Strome leads the Capitals with five points (1g, 4a) in two games against the Rangers this season. Washington will have the opportunity to sweep the season series with New York for the first time since 2018-19 (4-0-0). The Capitals are 119-101-18-8 all-time versus New York and 6-4-0 in their last 10 games against the Rangers.

The Eastern Conference leading Capitals are one win shy of matching their win total from all of last season (40-31-11, 91 points). After snapping its season-long three-game losing streak with a 5-4 shootout win over the Ottawa Senators on Monday, Washington will seek to start its 10th win streak of the season. The Capitals have won two straight on the road and are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games away from Capital One Arena.
