NURMI’S THREE-POINT GAME

Have yourself a night, Jesse Nurmi.

The Finnish winger had a three-point performance (1G, 2A) for the London Knights in a 7-3 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday.

Nurmi showed off his shorthanded skills, using smooth stick handling and a slick move in tight to lift the puck over the shoulder of the goalie to take a 6-1 lead for London. The 19-year-old also tallied assists on his team’s first and fifth goals.

With three points in the contest, the Islanders’ 2023 fourth-round pick (113^th overall) earned first star of the game honors.

The three-point game marked the first of his CHL career, in his first season with the Knights after spending three seasons in Finland with KooKoo, splitting time between Liiga, Finland’s top league, and U20 SM-sarja, the top junior league.

Nurmi has 24 points (8G, 16A) through his first 43 games in the OHL.

BERG SCORES NINTH OF THE SEASON

Cameron Berg buried his ninth goal of the season – and fourth on the power play – in a 3-1 win over Denver on Saturday.

The Islanders’ 2021 fourth-round pick (121st overall) scored a late second period goal on the man advantage to take a 2-1 lead for the Fighting Hawks, which held as the game-winner.

Berg netted 20 goals last season for North Dakota and put up 37 points through 40 games. The center was sidelined with injury this season, limiting him to 17 games this season, but he’s still averaging close to a point-per-game with nine goals and seven assists this season.
