Capitals cherry blossom jersey

The Washington Capitals are stopping to smell the cherry blossoms, as the saying (kind of) goes.

On Tuesday, the team unveiled its special Cherry Blossom jerseys, paying homage to the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival that takes place in Washington, D.C.

The jerseys will be worn during arrivals to the March 18 game against the Detroit Red Wings. They will then be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation (MSE Foundation).

Designed by DMV artist Taylor Kampa Olson, this year’s sweater design includes the Screaming Eagle logo, with a cherry blossom twist, on the front, as well as special cherry blossom numbers on the back.

Unique to this year’s sweater is a shoulder patch that gives a nod to the franchise’s 50th anniversary season.

Along with the jerseys, the Capitals released a full assortment of cherry blossom merchandise for sale at their team store and Capital One Arena.
